The drones are alright

I recently collaborated with photographer Jonty Renner and did a drone flyover of the Hutt City Council chambers construction site while they were installing 22 tonne prefabricated concrete walls. We were using the new DGI Phantom 2 which Jonty recently picked up. The great thing was that he had a monitor which I could see what […]

Transmission gully work has started

On the 29th of January I went out on the construction site of the future Transmission Gully motorway. It’s certainly a surreal experience being in the space which is going to be totally transformed and which will change Wellington in the future. I was working with a film crew interviewing staff when this excavator came […]

Camera scans of artist Jane Hyder’s latest work

Jane Hyder, a professional artist at Toi Poneke Arts Centre commissioned me to photograph some of her paintings, cards, and calendars she has done recently. Her work is sold in the UK as reproductions which is where I came in doing high resolution scans. I used the same camera scanning technique as in past archiving projects.

Digital archiving – camera scanning film

In a previous post, I wrote about scanning artworks and prints using a digital camera. I’m going to go a little deeper into the details of scanning 35mm film here. Scanning film has been around since the inception of digital photography with big expensive film scanners. The main issue with that method is how slow and cumbersome […]

I was driving back from a shoot in Miramar and saw Kilbirnie’s Zephyrometer being inspected by engineers after being tied down. The zephyrometer was hit by lightning during a storm on 14 August 2014. The damage runs through the sculpture by Phil Price. The top was destroyed and large holes are visible at the weight on the […]
