"Jay" getting some air during the competition

Here are some of my favorite shots from the day which featured a wealth of experiences – the second largest Waitangi Day event in the country according to Nick Legget who opened the event. I really liked the skateboarding competition which drew huge crowds with young and old alike watching intently. Click on any of [...]

Life Flight Trust Westpac Rescue Helicopter winch training

The view from the Coast Guard boat as a paramedic is being lowered down to us.

On Saturday January 14, 2011, I stopped by the Life Flight Trust as there was mention that they were going to be doing some winch training. This training is a regular occurrence to keep the paramedics up to date and current with being lowered from the helicopter to a moving vessel at sea. They were able [...]

Editorial shoot: Cold Chisel concert

Jimmy Barnes singing

On Friday, December 2, 2011 Cold Chisel played TSB Bank Arena. I was allowed into the venue for the first 3 songs, right up the front of the security barriers. It was potentially challenging to get great shots, but then again – plenty enough time to get a sense of the concert. Jimmy Barnes was [...]

I have been commissioned to photograph the work done by the Life Flight Trust. The Life Flight Trust is a charity providing nationwide air ambulance services and the Wellington-based Westpac Rescue Helicopter. Dowse Art Museum Opening of Wallace and Scott Eady Exhibition’s, Saturday October 29, 2011.

Screen Shot 2011-12-01 at 10.27.19 AM

On Saturday I went and photographed the opening of the exhibits for the Dowse. It was a great blend between the high brow art world of the Wallace Art Awards in conjunction with the Fullbright Association and Scott Eady’s 100 Bikes Project which had kids from ages 3-8 taking part. This is one of the [...]

What did you think about the Meatloaf concert?

I thought they had quite cool press passes so scanned the one they game me to share!

On the night, I was with the Domion Post photographer Ross Giblin and two other photographers for the Groove Guide and Under the Radar. I was shooting for the venue owners to get shots of the space decked out with the full theatre lighting and stage show. Our restriction was 3 songs, shooting from the [...]

Rugby World Cup – Ireland v Wales October 8, 2011

Friends out enjoying themselves at Courtenay Place Fan-zone after the Quarterfinal, Ireland v Wales at the IRB Rugby World Cup 2011. Wellington Regional Stadium, Wellington. Saturday 8 October 2011.

It was great to see in the after party event on Courtenay Place where they had closed the streets to make a massive fan zone, Kiwi revelers that were not intoxicated causing problems for authorities. Despite media attention on local hooligans causing the most trouble for police – there were plenty of examples of Kiwis doing us [...]

Strong Families March, September 14, 2011

Porirua Mayor Nick Leggett high-fives a student arriving at Te Rauparaha Arena.

The march started at Elim Christian Centre with the school groups dressed in the 20 teams participating in the Rugby World Cup. Last night after 3 attempts at getting access, was allowed onto the grounds at Porirua Park to photograph the Fijian rugby team training. First I heard was that 2:30 was the training time, then on the site, it was changed to 6pm. When I went, security told me it was delayed till 7:15 at the [...]

Summer City Photos on Council Website

A fun thing I found while browsing on the Wellington City Council’s website today was a bunch of my photos in their Summer City Photo Gallery. Here are some of the shots I really like from the events I shot this summer:

Coast to Coast article runs in September edition of NEXT magazine

The article Anna and I worked on has come out in NEXT magazine. We are both thrilled with the results, and have had good feedback from Kylie who featured in the article. It was great to take a copy of the magazine over and deliver it to her, along with a copy of the photos [...]

All Blacks Training Camp #2

Andrew Hore passes the ball overhead during an All Black Camp, Rugby League Park, Newtown, Wellington. Thursday June 30, 2011

I went out again and braved Wellington’s southerly blast this morning to shoot the second in a series of training camps for the All Blacks squad. Despite the harsh conditions, there were some great plays and many chances for met to get shots. TV, radio and the print media were all there again. This time [...]

All Blacks Training Camp

Piri Weepu WAll Black Camp, Rugby League Park, Newtown, Wellington. Wednesday June 29, 2011

This afternoon, I was lucky enough to get accreditation to photograph the All Blacks Training Camp. I shot alongside Phil Reid from the Dominion Post, Ross Setford (NZPA/ Setford News Photo Agency), Hagen Hopkins from Getty Images as well as TV1, 3 and Maori TV. Also cool to see was a producer from Stuff.com shooting [...]

Wellington’s mid winter swim

The group of swimmers emerge after completing the 1km swim

Today I photographed Wellington’s mid winter swim at Freyberg Beach in Oriental Bay. The morning started at 6:30am, struggling out of bed and getting down to the beach by 7am. I met with the organizer Barbara Watson from triandswimfit.ning.com. To my amazement, people actually showed up. There were about 25 hardy souls who assembled wearing [...]

Scan from the School Sports section of the Dominion Post Newspaper, 15 June, 2011.

A great kiwi TV institution with Selwyn Toogood as the host has been revived by Maori Television. The season finale was shot in Porirua on June 9, 2011. I was there at the VIP cocktail function to document the pre-drinks hosted by the Office of the Mayor, Nick Leggett . Here is a slideshow of [...]

Volunteers recognized for Christchurch relief efforts

The Council Chambers are a great venue - their is a real sense of spectacle in the space with the high ceilings and portraits of former mayors on the walls.

On Thursday 2 June, I went to the Council Chambers and photographed the Christchurch Thank You reception for volunteers who were involved with the Christchurch earthquake relief efforts.

Scots College Brass Band on board the California Maritime Academy training ship T.S. Golden Bear.

Shellsea Stoughton, Kieran Brown. Reception aboard the California Maritime Academy training ship T.S. Golden Bear Wellington Harbour 30 May, 2011.

A visit in New Zealand waters of any type of US military ship is always a somewhat historic event. It has been over 20 years since the California Maritime Academy has been here. It had been bounced around for a few days the idea of me attending and photographing the formal reception with the US [...]

Trust Porirua City Brass Band

Trust Porirua City Brand Band members from left Eloni Niu, Mary Holt, Kelvin Poris, Rachel Avison, Jane Holt, John Jones.

A recent fun shoot was the Trust Porirua City Brass band. The band plays a special concert each year much like the “Night at the Proms” events in England. I checked out some footage on You Tube before the shoot, watching footage of the massive stadium filling events that happen in the UK. The Kiwi [...]

Wellington Pacific Forum held at Te Papa

Parting shot: I like how in this break out session, the poster for home instulation is in the background of a man wrapped up nice and warm with his woolen gersey and scarf...

On Tuesday, I photographed the Pacific Forum, an initiate put together with the help of the Wellington City Council and the Pacific Advisory Group members. It was held at Te Papa (The Museum of New Zealand) in the Telstra Clear room on the 4th floor. The community attending were made up from a lot of [...]

Dancing Dogs

This is a more subtle moment, but I like the expression of looking away perhaps thinking of where to throw the ball next. It spoke to me as an intersting moment.

Here are some images from a lifestyle shoot of a Dog Trainer, Marika Bell from Dancing Dogs. The brief was to photograph her with a dog and if possible show a little of what she does. Apparently Marika is an expert in animal behavior and can work miracles with dogs. She told me that she [...]
