All Blacks Training Camp #2

Andrew Hore passes the ball overhead during an All Black Camp, Rugby League Park, Newtown, Wellington. Thursday June 30, 2011

I went out again and braved Wellington’s southerly blast this morning to shoot the second in a series of training camps for the All Blacks squad. Despite the harsh conditions, there were some great plays and many chances for met to get shots. TV, radio and the print media were all there again. This time [...]

This afternoon, I was lucky enough to get accreditation to photograph the All Blacks Training Camp. Auto Classics Winter Fun Run

I like how this composition came together with the corner, the countryside and the car...

On Sunday, my Dad and I drove my MG-F on the Auto Classics Fun Run. It’s a car rally where people drive their classic cars together in rally fashion with a series of pre-determined destinations. The run went to Castlepoint before turning around. A group of us decided to go the long winding road back. [...]

Volunteers recognized for Christchurch relief efforts

The Council Chambers are a great venue - their is a real sense of spectacle in the space with the high ceilings and portraits of former mayors on the walls.

On Thursday 2 June, I went to the Council Chambers and photographed the Christchurch Thank You reception for volunteers who were involved with the Christchurch earthquake relief efforts.

Scots College Brass Band on board the California Maritime Academy training ship T.S. Golden Bear.

Shellsea Stoughton, Kieran Brown. Reception aboard the California Maritime Academy training ship T.S. Golden Bear Wellington Harbour 30 May, 2011.

A visit in New Zealand waters of any type of US military ship is always a somewhat historic event. It has been over 20 years since the California Maritime Academy has been here. It had been bounced around for a few days the idea of me attending and photographing the formal reception with the US [...]

Trust Porirua City Brand Band members from left Eloni Niu, Mary Holt, Kelvin Poris, Rachel Avison, Jane Holt, John Jones.

A recent fun shoot was the Trust Porirua City Brass band. The band plays a special concert each year much like the “Night at the Proms” events in England. I checked out some footage on You Tube before the shoot, watching footage of the massive stadium filling events that happen in the UK. The Kiwi [...]

Wellington Pacific Forum held at Te Papa

Parting shot: I like how in this break out session, the poster for home instulation is in the background of a man wrapped up nice and warm with his woolen gersey and scarf...

On Tuesday, I photographed the Pacific Forum, an initiate put together with the help of the Wellington City Council and the Pacific Advisory Group members. It was held at Te Papa (The Museum of New Zealand) in the Telstra Clear room on the 4th floor. The community attending were made up from a lot of [...]

Dancing Dogs

This is a more subtle moment, but I like the expression of looking away perhaps thinking of where to throw the ball next. It spoke to me as an intersting moment.

Here are some images from a lifestyle shoot of a Dog Trainer, Marika Bell from Dancing Dogs. The brief was to photograph her with a dog and if possible show a little of what she does. Apparently Marika is an expert in animal behavior and can work miracles with dogs. She told me that she [...]

Health event with amazing Chinese performing arts groups

Tai Chi by Chinese Senior Community.

I photographed a health event which was for the Wellington City Council yesterday. It was a health fair for residents of community housing. This particular area had a large Chinese population. It was a real treat to be a part of the community for the day and feel the mellow vibe of the residents. I [...]

Xterra Rotorua Festival 2011

The leader of the Xterra Richard Ussher coming through the trail running section

This year I was lucky enough to get picked to be on the Marathon Photos team to travel to the Xterra Festival in Rotorua. It is the largest offroad multi-sport event in New Zealand, and the largest Xterra event in the world. My challenge was to get shots in the forest of runners. I brought [...]

Porirua Grand Traverse

Two runners coming around the cliff. I like how the shaddows are still present in this one.

Today, I shot photos of the Porirua Grand Traverse for Marathon Photos. I shot the starting area with the Mountain Bikers heading off the blocks. There were about 500 or so that I saw. I then had time to go get breakfast at Denny’s before heading over to the coast to cover the run. This [...]

Porirua, Wellington and Greater Wellington sign environmental agreement

The group of VIPs and Councilors gathered at the waterfront of Porirua Harbour.

The signing of 3 major councils, Porirua, Wellignton and Greater Wellington- singed into being a Trust thats being set up for the future restoration of Porirua Harbour. Its actually pretty cool how the 3 have come together like they have. The main reason is that the water catchment actually extends into Wellington region making the [...]
