This is a recent portrait I produced of a boat builder for a Wellington based ad agency. The concept was a Real-People style shoot with an environment representing what he did. We had a producer who did the makeup – adding grit and grime! The trick was then to balance the lighting. I had a neutral density filter on the lens (the new Sigma 50mm art lens), and underexposed the natural light down by about 2 stops. I lit the subject with a large light panel and strobe. I was going for the look that it didn’t look artificially lit. This was helped by having window light adding to the exposure which I just boosted by the strobe. Thanks to Elias and Luke for assisting on this one. You guys did a great job under pressure of time and space.
