Positively Pacifika Festival Wellington 17 January 2015
A couple who brought their dog all received Lei’s from Mai FM.
This little guy was awesome. At only 3 years old his Mum told me that this was his first performance on stage. This shot was taken backstage just before he went up. He did great too, totally nailing his performance. What a champ!
This is one of my favourite photos from 2015 so far! I spotted this Grandfather and Grandson from across the crowd and made a beeline over to them. I asked them first – I like how the Grandson is keeping an eye on me while his Grandfather is not worried in the slightest.
The weather was typically Wellington. The sun was out from over Mt. Victoria while the rain was coming in from Mt. Kaukau. At times it was raining and sunny! I spotted these guys working their way through the edge of the crowd and got a few shots + then lined up for when the walked toward us. Kind of sums up the day, amazing amounts of culture, colour and fun despite the Wellington weather.
On Saturday 17 January 2015. I went down with my family to the Positively Pacifika Festival at Waitangi Park. The event is a celebration of the culture, food, music of the peoples of the Pacific. One of the performances by a Paupa group contained 30% of the entire Wellington population! One of the parts I liked the most was the atmosphere. We got there early during the setup, and the vibe was like being in the islands. Things were happening and organized but no-one was rushing or stressed. I think the vibe carried over to all the people who attended. Pretty hard to maintain a negative attitude here. After my family needed to get back for lunch and naps, I stayed on for a couple of hours and looked for Real-People to photograph. Here are a few of my favourites:
