On Wednesday 8 January 2014, I was on a lunchtime run in the town belt (in the Mt. Victoria section) and spotted a group doing a Lord of the Rings tour. One of the women on the tour was dressed as Galadriel, a female elf played by Cate Blanchett.
I wasn’t sure if this was a photo shoot when approaching the group. I felt a little cheeky asking if I might be able to take a photograph with my iPhone. They were totally cool with it, the tour guide chiding that “you will get this often today.”
It’s great to see that their is still international interest in the Lord of the Rings and more recent films that Peter Jackson has made. I really enjoyed working on the set of the Hobbitt as a digital assist for an American photographer during production.
I took the Rover Tours Lord of the Rings day tour a few years ago. I would strongly recommend even if you are a local taking the time to check out the locations that are all around us where the films were shot.
