Two wedding proposals during Challenge Wanaka 2013

I was lucky enough to be witness to two wedding proposals while covering the Challenge Wanaka Iron Distance Triathlon on Saturday January 19, 2013. Dubbed “the world’s most scenic iron distance triathlon” it’s (226km), set against the lake and mountain backdrop of Mount Aspiring National Park in New Zealand’s South Island.

Here are some photos I took for Marathon Photos who were my client for the assignment:

At the finish line of the event one competitor was greeted with a banner reading “will you marry me?” and a gentleman on bended knee. I think the reaction says it all!

Chris McCormack leaves on the start of the cycle leg of the challenge leaving Wanaka township behind him.

Meanwhile, the general public enjoyed the great weather and calm conditions – the lake providing a welcome relief to the heat
