EECA launches fuel saving program for heavy veichles at Parliament

On Friday, September 21, 2012 I covered the unveiling of a new program by EECA to reduce fuel costs for freight companies, and reduce New Zealand’s transport carbon emissions. The event was held at Parliament with Energy and Resources Minister Phil Heatley, who arrived in a large tractor unit.

The minister steps out of a big rig driven onto the front steps of Parliament in front of the Beehive.

I had scouted out where the truck would arrive carrying the minister, as there were load bearing concerns with such a large vehicle arriving on top of the basement at Parliament – they marked on the ground where the axle should go and the front of the truck. It was just then a matter of waiting for the big yellow rig to arrive!
