Prime Minister opens the Wellesley College library building in relaxed personable style

Wellesley College held an opening ceremony on Wednesday 21 March 2012 for the new library and ICT building with The Rt. Hon. John Key the official guest of honor. Other notables were Sir John Todd, former mayor Georgina Beyer, current mayors Celia Wade-Brown and Raw Wallace, and author Lloyd Jones. View image gallery of all photos from the day here.

For sure it was an impressive line up of VIPs and notables. The boys could have been intimidated by the prospect of meeting the Prime Minister, but like great Wellesley students they took it in their stride while being on their best behavior. The PM was slightly delayed and I was able to get the above shot; a quick check to see if it was possible to catch a glimpse. Kind of reminds me of Christmas where you try and get a glimpse of Santa Claus…

The Rt. Hon. John Key, Prime Minister speaks to the assembly of students and families at Wellesley College prior to the official opening of the library building.

I guess the thing that impressed me most was the way Mr. Key developed a report with the crowd, especially the boys. He told a story that started off being completely related to their library, the tale of a boy who swam across a crocodile infested swimming pool but brought it around by saying that one achieve things you never thought possible. It was great that our PM could make his speech approachable to students and adults alike.
