Big Day Dowse blessed with perfect weather

The weather forecast was uncertain for the first ever  Big Day Dowse event on Sunday 25th March, 2012. The Dowse Art Museum managed to pull the event off without a hitch however as the day was a scorcher. Rhombus who were the headline act reminded the large crowd to soak in the best day of summer. For me, it felt like I could finally say that I had had a summer- it really felt like I was part of something special. Image Gallery link

The coolest thing about the event for me was the interaction that everyone was having with families, young and old all getting amongst it. The objective to make it an epic big festival type of event worked really well I think. Like other ‘Big Days’ I’ve been to- it was definitely all there! That said, other ‘Big Day’ events are not family friendly, so in that sense it was better for the community.

Even the babies got to get up and have a boggie...

There were thousands that turned out on the first of the annual Big Day Dowse events. The galleries were all heaving with another stage inside and crafts for sale + the Amazing Traveling photo booth providing free portraits for visitors.

A young girl gets to have an up close and personal chat with Weta Studio's Wot Wot characters. These guys were flying around the crowds in their little arm chairs. The kids loved that random aspect of getting to say hi without lining up for ages.

Fuse Circus added a real festival vibe to the day. The drew in the crowds and gave them an hour long show in the new city square.

Certainly the success of the day was helped by the fantastic weather. The event was really well planned with great acts like Fuse Circus, Mr. Fungus, The Wot Wots from Weta Studios, Bella Kalolo, Roseneath Centennial Ragtime Band, Newtown Rock Steady and Rhombus. Its really cool to see and experience when all the elements come together like that. I am sure now that the first of the now annual events was a success, the following ones will be awesome, even if the back up plan of using the Horticultural Hall is used on a rainy day…
