Qantas 737-800 plane named after Sir Edmund Hillary at Wellington International Airport

Today (well, now it was yesterday evening!), I shot a special VIP event at Wellington International Airport. A Qantas Boeing 737-800 was dedicated to Sir Edmund Hillary. Sir Edmund’s son Peter, Grandson Arthur Boyer and first Great Grandson Felix Edmund Boyer (6.5 months old) were there to see the dedication and received a special plaque for the family.

It was challenging being a high profile event and not really knowing all the VIPs by sight. Dignitaries included Senior MPs such as the Speaker of The House, Cabinet Ministers, Senior Corporate Clients and Travel Agency Owners / Manager. Luckily, with the help of the Qantas staff, I was able to identify the key people, as well as just circulating around and approaching interesting people and asking to take their photos- often these turned out to be the very people I needed to find anyway.

I thought it was a real honor to be a part of history in the making- especially with such an amazing legacy such as the Hillary Family. They are some amazing people, so down to earth and genuine yet great! I liked the quote that Peter Hillary said from his Dad “It is not the mountain we conquer but ourselves.” Sir Edmund Hillary.
